Appalachian Trail Thru-Hike Prep Workshop

Considering thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail? This in-person workshop will cover details about the trail to help you have a successful hike, including topics related to gear, nutrition, climate on the trail, budgeting for a thru-hike, and the mental approach to thru-hiking. Your guide bring a variety of gear to talk about and let you handle. Participants will also be able to ask questions throughout the workshop to guide the conversation. Workshop will be hosted at an Asheville area brewery.
Cost:
$85 per person
Scholarships and Sliding Scale Fees are available for this workshop. Please reach out to us at trips@blueridgehikingco.com for more information. Workshop minimum is 2 participants, and maximum capacity is 9 participants. If the minimum has not yet been met, we will reach out one week before the workshop to discuss options. Registration fee includes the workshop, your first drink, and a Pocket Profile of the Great Smoky Mountains section of the AT. It does not include gratuity for your coach.

Itinerary:
This workshop lasts about 3-3.5 hours, with time allotted afterward for questions. The in person workshop will be hosted at an Asheville-area brewery (location TBD), beginning at 2pm. Workshop materials will be brought to the workshop. Workshop registration includes your first drink.
Coach:
Your coach for this workshop will be Matt Dobson. Having moved around the world pursuing other professional interests, Matt has decided Western North Carolina is the place for him and helping to expose others to our natural world is the perfect way to spend his time. Matt has over 12,000 trail miles on his legs, including thru-hikes of the Appalachian Trail, Continental Divide Trail, John Muir Trail, and Long Trail. He has a Plant Sciences degree from the University of Tennessee and has spent many of his hours in nature studying its science and history.
What we Provide:
BRHC will provide all instruction and a Pocket Profile of the Great Smoky Mountains section of the AT for you to keep. Your first drink is on us for the in-person workshop.
What to Bring:
In-person workshops may be hosted outside, so please dress appropriately! Bring a notebook and any questions you may have.
Cancellation Policy:
Payment in full is required to register. Workshop cost includes a 15% non-refundable administrative fee. Reservation may be cancelled up to 1 week before the workshop date for a refund (minus the 15% fee). Within 1 week, a 50% refund will be offered. Within 48 hours, a refund will only be offered if Blue Ridge Hiking Company cancels the workshop.
