We've done our best to compile an accurate list of what trails are open and closed, but that information changes frequently! We recommend double checking trail status with the land management agency responsible for the trail you're interested in before heading out to hike. You can click on the name of each area below to view detailed closure information on the land management organization's website.
Pisgah National Forest
- Pisgah Ranger District is reopened, with the exception of Avery Creek Road, Yellow Gap Road (between Wolf Ford and North Mills River), Headwaters Road (from 475 to the Sunwall Trailhead), and the northern portion of Catheys Creek Road. Open areas include Bent Creek Experimental Forest.
- Grandfather Ranger District has partially reopened. Please see their website for details of which trails are open or closed.
- Appalachian Ranger District has reopened the Western portions, including most trails within Haywood and Madison Counties. The eastern portions, including most trails within Avery, Buncombe, Mitchell, and Yancey Counties, remain closed.
Nantahala National Forest has reopened.
Great Smoky Mountains National Park has largely reopened, with Balsam Mountain, Cataloochee Valley, and Big Creek areas remaining closed due to storm damage. Other seasonal or weather-related road/trail closures may be in effect.
Blue Ridge Parkway has implemented Full Closures (no access allowed) from Beacon Heights to the Folk Art Center, 191/Brevard Rd to 151/Elk Pasture Gap, and Black Balsam Knob Rd to NC215. In areas that are "open", seasonal or weather-related closures may be in effect. In places where season or weather-related closures are in effect, foot and bike traffic is allowed!
Dupont State Forest has partially reopened, with some popular trails remaining closed. Most notably, Triple Falls and High Falls are accessible only from the Visitor Center (not the Hooker Falls parking area), and Cedar Rock is accessible as an out-and-back up Big Rock (Little River Trail remains closed).
NC State Parks
Chimney Rock, Mt Mitchell, and South Mountains remain closed.
Most other Western parks have reopened. Available services and facilities may be limited.
Conserving Carolinas trails have partially reopened. The Trombatore Trail (if accessed from Strawberry Gap) and Strawberry Gap Trail are open. All other trails in the Hickory Nut Gorge area remain closed.
NC Arboretum paved and gravel roads have reopened; single track/dirt trails remain closed.
Montreat trails are open in the Lookout area. Greybeard area trails are closed.
Green River Game Lands trails remain closed.
